Ge-Wa-Ga, like its neighbor Tichero a few miles to its North, is another of the forgotten casualties of the Sullivan-Clinton Campaign. Ge-Wa-Ga, or Promontory Running Out, was a small Cayuga tribe village that was located at the present day site of the village of Union Springs.
Ge-Wa-Ga was destroyed on September 21st, 1779 and was the second village destroyed by Colonel Butler destroyed after crossing the Cayuga Outlet, now the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. At the time Ge-Wa-Ga had a few small houses and fields of crop.
Today the site of Ge-Wa-Ga is now the village of Union Springs with a marker for Ge-Wa-Ga standing in front of Springport Library on Route 90 in Union Springs. GPS Coordinates are Latitude 42°50'34.16"N by Longitude 76°41'31.14"W
