Kashong was one of the sites of Seneca Castle, the Seneca tribe capitol up until a viral outbreak caused the capitol to be moved to Geneva at Kanadesaga.
Kashong remained an active village until September 8th, 1779 when Major Parr destroyed Kashong during the Sullivan-Clinton campaign. By all accounts it was a nice village of 20 houses that was surrounded by orchards of peach and apple trees and extensive cornfields.
A stone monument was erected by the State of New York in 1929 at the approximate location of Kashong. The monument is near the intersection of Route 14 and Kashong Road about 6 miles South of Geneva. The coordinates for the monument are 42 46'01.14"N by 76 58'35.82"W.
