Kanadesaga

Kanadesaga was the Seneca Castle or capitol of the Seneca tribe and was by all rights a very splendid place to live. Fifty houses comprised the main part of the village with thirty more in the vicinity. Surrounding Kanadesaga were extensive gardens of vegetables, orchards and cornfields. Kanadesaga was also the site of a stockaded fort that was built in 1756.

Kanadesaga was destroyed on September 7th, 1779 by the entire force of the Sullivan-Clinton Campaign. The main force of the campaign camped at Kanadesaga while Major Parr destroyed Kashong to the South and Colonel Harper destroyed Scawyace to the West.

Kanadesaga was located at the North West corner of Geneva, two markers stand in the approximate location of the village. One is located in front of the Castle Road Mini Mart and the other on the opposite side of County Road 6. The GPS coordinates for the signs are 42 52'39.08"N by 77 00'43.06"W and 42 52'38.79"N by 77 00 40.19"W.
