One of the first things many New
Yorkers learn in our history lessons is of the aw-inspiring Iroquois
Confederacy that once inhabited New York.
We are taught the names, histories and cultures of each tribe, the Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora, yet we learn almost nothing about what happened to them during the Revolutionary War.
We are often taught about the Treaty of Canandaigua which is how we obtained the lands of Central New York yet it our history books are mum about what happened to the Confederacy during the Revolutionary War yet there are more historical markers in New York about this period then any other chapter of New York history.
This website will explore what happened to the Iroquois Confederacy during the Revolutionary War, namely the Sullivan-Clinton Campaign.
